Open Space (OST) is a 2-hour dynamic, collaborative, attendee-led conference. This event will be facilitated by OST expert facilitator John Beranek. This will be a participant-driven process whose agenda is created by the people attending.

What is this about? Two things.

1. Community members teamed up with local entrepreneurs to start a non-profit that focuses on entrepreneur-led economic development through reducing the barriers to entrepreneurship for women, immigrants, and rural. This is called CIVITAS. This non-profit will be housed in a space downtown Sioux Falls. This center for entrepreneur-led economic development will be called THE HIVE.
2. If this organization could have the biggest impact on women entrepreneurs in our area in the next 3 to 30 years, what issues would they be helping tackle/solve? What are the biggest barriers women are facing? We need your input.

This is NOT a women’s only event. All are welcome. The focus will be on how we can collectively improve women’s access to entrepreneurship. Kids are welcome. No pets, please. Light snacks will be provided. Nut free.

You may not know that in South Dakota:
The Good:
5-year growth in average revenue of Women-Owned Businesses: 95.4% (3rd)
5-year growth in the number of Women-Owned Businesses: 38.9% (5th)
Average revenue of Women-Owned Businesses: $166,579 (11th)

The Bad:
Number of SBA Women’s Business Centers: 1 (tied 27th)
% of Total Businesses Owned by Women: 30.1% (51st)

Basically, SD women are badasses if they jump into entrepreneurship, just very few are. We seek to change that.
